Operational Context

Dassault Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 — multirole fighter aircraft

The Mirage 2000 first flew in 1978, with the -5 Mk2 variant entering service in the early 2000s. It retains the delta wing layout and fly-by-wire controls of earlier versions. The Mk2 upgrade focused on enhanced air-to-air and strike capability.

A single turbofan engine producing approximately 21,400 pounds of thrust (95 kN) with afterburner powers the aircraft. Maximum speed exceeds Mach 2. Maximum takeoff weight approaches 38,000 pounds (17,237 kg).

The Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 continues to operate in air defense and strike roles. Its modernization extends the service life of the Mirage 2000 platform. The aircraft remains an important export fighter design.
