Airport History
Helsinki Vantaa was developed to replace and expand on earlier aviation facilities in the Helsinki area as air travel demand increased after the mid-20th century. Its location in Vantaa was chosen to support longer-term growth and improved airport operations compared with older sites closer to the city center.
