Operational Context

Sukhoi Su-30 — twin-seat multirole fighter

The Su-30 first flew in the late 1980s as a two-seat derivative of the Su-27. It was designed to provide extended range and improved mission flexibility compared with the single-seat version. Subsequent variants introduced advanced avionics and thrust-vectoring engines.

Powered by twin turbofan engines producing over 27,000 pounds of thrust (120 kN) each with afterburner, the Su-30 can exceed Mach 2. Maximum takeoff weight is roughly 77,000 pounds (35,000 kg). The aircraft carries a broad array of modern munitions.

The Su-30 has been widely exported, including to India and other countries with customized configurations. Its long range and heavy payload make it suitable for both air superiority and strike roles. The aircraft remains a significant element of several national air forces.
