Operational Context

F-15E Strike Eagle — long-range multirole strike fighter

The F-15E first flew in 1986 as a derivative of the F-15 airframe adapted for ground attack. Entering service in 1989, it introduced conformal fuel tanks and a strengthened structure for carrying heavy ordnance. The tandem-seat cockpit allows a pilot and weapons systems officer to manage complex strike missions.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney F100 or General Electric F110 engines producing over 29,000 pounds of thrust (129 kN) each with afterburner, the F-15E can exceed Mach 2.5. Maximum takeoff weight is approximately 81,000 pounds (36,740 kg). The aircraft carries precision-guided munitions, air-to-air missiles, and targeting pods.

The Strike Eagle has been employed in multiple conflicts, demonstrating long-range precision strike capability. Its combination of speed, payload, and avionics has kept it relevant through successive upgrades. The type remains a key component of U.S. and allied air forces.
