Operational Context

Piper PA-32R Saratoga — retractable-gear piston aircraft

The Saratoga entered service in 1979 as a refinement of the PA-32 series. It features a low-wing configuration and retractable landing gear. The aircraft was designed for improved performance over fixed-gear predecessors.

Powered by a Lycoming IO-540 piston engine producing approximately 300 horsepower, the Saratoga cruises at around 160 knots (296 km/h). Maximum takeoff weight exceeds 3,600 pounds (1,633 kg). The cabin accommodates up to six occupants.

The Saratoga became popular for family travel and charter operations. It remained in production into the 2000s. The aircraft continues to operate widely in general aviation.
