Operational Context

Mooney M20TN Acclaim / Type S — turbocharged high-speed single

The M20 lineage dates to the 1950s, but the Acclaim variant emerged in the 2000s as a turbocharged development aimed at maximizing cruise speed. Featuring a streamlined fuselage and retractable landing gear, the aircraft emphasized efficiency and altitude performance. The Type S variant introduced refinements and incremental performance improvements.

Powered by a Continental TSIO-550 engine producing approximately 280 horsepower, the Acclaim cruises at about 230 knots (425 km/h) at altitude. Maximum takeoff weight is roughly 3,368 pounds (1,528 kg). Range can exceed 1,200 nautical miles (2,220 km) depending on fuel and payload.

The aircraft appeals to owner-pilots seeking jet-like cruise speeds with piston operating costs. Its high-altitude capability enhances weather flexibility and efficiency. The Acclaim represents one of the fastest certified piston singles ever produced.
