Kylian Mbappé is one of the best-paid athletes on the planet, so people assume there is a Kylian Mbappé private jet parked somewhere with his number on the tail. Search for it and you get guesses, prices and no aircraft.
We could not find one. No aircraft is registered to him in the FAA’s October 2026 file, and no credible report has ever tied a tail number to him. What he does instead is charter, and few footballers’ charters have caused as much argument.
This article covers what the record shows, the jets he has actually flown on, the PSG “sand yacht” joke that turned private flying into a French political issue, and how he compares with the footballers who do own a jet.
Quick facts about Kylian Mbappé’s private jet

Does Kylian Mbappé Own a Private Jet? What the Record Shows
We searched the FAA’s complete aircraft register, the October 28, 2026 release, for his name across the active, deregistered and reserved files. Nothing came back for Mbappé, and no N-number is reserved under it.
A French player would more likely use a European register, and those hide owners behind companies. So the stronger evidence is what reporting has found. Every documented Mbappé flight, from 2017 to today, was on a chartered jet or a team aircraft.
The ownership answer, stated plainly
No register entry, purchase report or tail number links Kylian Mbappé to an aircraft he owns. Jets are often held through anonymous companies, so a hidden one cannot be fully ruled out, but every flight of his that has been documented was a charter or a club or national team plane.
Our World Cup 2026 stars and their private jets roundup reaches the same answer. He has the money to own a fleet and has chosen to rent by the trip instead.
The Jets Mbappé Actually Flies On
The aircraft most closely tied to his name is a charter. In October 2024, L’Équipe reported that he flew a five-day loop between Madrid, Stockholm, Corsica and Le Bourget on a jet it identified as an “Embraer Legacy 550”.
Embraer has never sold a model by that name. The type code E550 covers two real jets, the Embraer Legacy 500 and its successor, the Embraer Praetor 600, so the reported name almost certainly mixes the model with its code.

His biggest flights are team flights. After the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, the France squad flew home on Air France flight AF4001, a Boeing 777-200ER that left Doha at 13:30 on December 19, 2022 and landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle at 18:25.

There was no parade waiting. France had lost the final on penalties the day before, despite Mbappé’s hat-trick, and the planned Champs-Élysées celebration was cancelled.
At Real Madrid his face is on the plane itself. On January 7, 2025, Emirates landed a Boeing 777 in Madrid wearing a Real Madrid livery with six first-team players on it, Mbappé among them, then flew the squad to Jeddah for the Spanish Super Cup.

The Origin Story: From a Circling Jet to a Plane With His Face on It
Mbappé was born in Paris on December 20, 1998, and debuted for Monaco at 16. His flying life ran fast from there.
December 2015
First-team debut. Mbappé plays his first match for Monaco, aged 16, in a 1-1 draw with Caen.
2017
The jet that flew in circles. Liverpool fly to Nice and take the Mbappé family up in a private jet so the talks cannot be seen in public.
August 2017
Paris instead. He joins PSG on loan with a mandatory purchase option of 180 million euros.
July 2018
World champion. France beat Croatia 4-2, and Mbappé scores in the final.
September 2022
The sand yacht joke. Asked why PSG flew to Nantes, his coach jokes about sand yachts while Mbappé laughs, and the mayor of Paris and two ministers respond.
December 2022
Hat-trick, then AF4001. He scores three in the World Cup final, France lose on penalties, and the squad flies home on an Air France 777.
July 2024
Real Madrid, and a club of his own. He is unveiled at Real Madrid on July 16, and his holding company buys 80% of SM Caen on July 30.
October 2024
The Stockholm charter. Left out of a France Nations League squad, he flies to Stockholm by private jet, a trip L’Équipe later costs at about 100,000 euros.
January 2025
On the livery. Emirates flies Real Madrid to Jeddah on a 777 painted with Mbappé and five teammates.
July 2026
Klopp tells the story. Jürgen Klopp calls the 2017 jet trip Liverpool’s most expensive non-transfer.
The Sand Yacht Joke That Put Private Jets on France’s Agenda
In September 2022, PSG flew to an away match in Nantes, a 236-mile (380 km) trip that takes under two hours by TGV. Marco Verratti posted a clip from the flight, and France’s rail operator answered publicly with a train offer.
At the press conference on Monday, September 5, a journalist asked coach Christophe Galtier about it. Galtier said the club was “looking into travelling on sand yachts”. Mbappé, sitting beside him, laughed, and when asked for his own view, said he had none.
Why one laugh became a national story
Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo replied: “Wake up guys????” The sports minister said she expected “more relevant and responsible answers”, and the transport minister said the government wanted to regulate private jet flights. Galtier apologised the next day for a joke in bad taste.
Other footballers were already under the same lens. Coverage of the row cited campaigners at Attac, who counted 52 private flights by Lionel Messi from June to August 2022, totalling 1,502 tonnes of CO2 by their estimate.
The route itself later made the point for the critics. When France’s ban on short domestic flights with a train alternative under two and a half hours was published on May 23, 2023, Paris Orly to Nantes was one of the routes it covered.
Private jets were handled as a separate question. In the week of the sand yacht row, the transport minister said heavy taxes and restrictions were more likely than an outright ban.
The Stockholm Charter of October 2024
Mbappé was not selected for France’s October 2024 Nations League matches. Instead he flew from Madrid to Stockholm with a group, staying from October 9 to 11.
L’Équipe pieced the trip together: an Embraer midsize jet, about 4,100 miles (6,600 km) and 15 hours of flying between Madrid, Stockholm, Corsica and Le Bourget. A commercial airline pilot it consulted put the whole trip at close to 100,000 euros and about 25 tonnes of CO2, against roughly 10 tonnes a year for an average French person.
The trip became news for another reason. Swedish prosecutors opened a rape investigation over an incident at a Stockholm hotel on October 10 without naming a suspect, and Swedish media reported it concerned Mbappé, who denied any involvement.
On December 12, 2024, prosecutor Marina Chirakova closed the case, saying the evidence was not sufficient to proceed. The suspect had never been notified of suspicion of a crime.
Famous Flights
The Liverpool Jet That Flew in Circles (2017)
The best Mbappé aviation story is not his. In 2017, Liverpool flew to Nice to meet the 18-year-old, and the whole Mbappé family boarded a private jet Klopp remembered as having “five rooms”.
“We just flew in circles, talked with the family, and had a delicious meal,” Klopp said in July 2026. “We weren’t allowed to be seen.” Then Mbappé went to Paris, which is why Klopp calls it “the most expensive non-transfer” Liverpool ever made.
AF4001: The Quiet Flight Home From Doha (2022)
Four years after flying home as world champions, the squad left Doha on a 6-hour-55-minute Air France flight with no ceremony planned at Roissy. Mbappé had just become the second man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, and still lost it.
The Emirates 777 to Jeddah (2025)
Emirates has sponsored Real Madrid since 2011, the longest shirt deal in La Liga history. In January 2025 it put six players on the side of a Boeing 777, which went on to serve Emirates routes after the Jeddah trip.
How Mbappé Compares With Footballers Who Own Jets
The two players he is most often measured against both own aircraft. Cristiano Ronaldo’s private jet story runs through a line of Gulfstreams, and Lionel Messi’s private jet is a Gulfstream V with his family’s names painted on the steps.
Ownership also puts a player in the spotlight that Mbappé has only stepped into trip by trip. Messi’s summer 2022 flights were counted and published by campaigners; Mbappé’s charters only drew scrutiny when a single trip became news.
For the wider picture, our list of footballers who own private jets shows how rare outright ownership still is, even among the sport’s richest names.
