Operational Context

Tupolev Tu-204 — narrowbody twin-engine airliner

The Tu-204 first flew in 1989 and entered service in 1996. It featured a new wing design and glass cockpit compared with earlier Tupolev models. The aircraft was developed to meet updated noise and efficiency standards.

Two turbofan engines producing approximately 36,000 pounds of thrust (160 kN) each power the aircraft depending on variant. Cruise speed approaches Mach 0.80. Maximum takeoff weight exceeds 231,000 pounds (104,780 kg), with range near 3,500 nautical miles (6,482 km).

The Tu-204 has seen service with Russian and international operators. Although production volumes remained modest, the type represents a significant modernization step in post-Soviet civil aviation.
