Operational Context

Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk — export medium-lift military helicopter

The Black Hawk first entered U.S. Army service in 1979, and over time the design evolved into numerous variants. The S-70i was developed as an international production model assembled in Poland, providing a modern configuration tailored to export requirements. It incorporates digital avionics and structural updates aligned with later UH-60 versions.

Powered by two General Electric T700 turboshaft engines, the S-70i cruises at approximately 150 knots (280 km/h). Maximum takeoff weight exceeds 22,000 pounds (10,000 kg) depending on configuration. The helicopter typically carries 11 troops or a combination of cargo and mission equipment.

Operators use the S-70i for troop transport, disaster relief, firefighting, and special operations. Its modular design allows integration of hoists, sensors, and defensive systems. The S-70i demonstrates how the Black Hawk platform continues to evolve for international markets while retaining its core performance characteristics.
