Operational Context

Fairchild Dornier 328JET — twin-engine regional jet

The 328JET first flew in 1998 and entered service in 1999. It retained the cabin cross-section of the turboprop 328 but incorporated rear-mounted turbofan engines. The modification allowed higher cruise speed and jet operational characteristics.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306 turbofan engines producing approximately 6,000 pounds of thrust (27 kN) each, the 328JET cruises at around 405 knots (750 km/h). Maximum takeoff weight is roughly 35,000 pounds (15,900 kg). Seating capacity typically ranges from 30 to 33 passengers.

The 328JET saw limited production due to financial challenges faced by the manufacturer. It remains in service with regional and special mission operators. The aircraft represents an effort to adapt a proven regional platform to jet propulsion.
