Operational Context

Extra EA 330SC — single-seat unlimited aerobatic aircraft

The EA 330SC evolved from the earlier EA 300 series as Extra sought to refine performance for the highest levels of competition. Introduced in the early 2000s, the design incorporated aerodynamic improvements, lighter structure, and optimized control surfaces for precision maneuvers. The airframe is constructed primarily of composite materials with a steel tube fuselage core for strength.

Powered by a Lycoming AEIO-580 piston engine producing approximately 315 horsepower, the EA 330SC is capable of roll rates exceeding 400 degrees per second. Maximum takeoff weight is roughly 2,100 pounds (950 kg). The aircraft is stressed for aerobatic loads typically in the range of plus or minus 10 g.

The EA 330SC has been flown by numerous world champions and Red Bull Air Race competitors. Its combination of power, control harmony, and structural resilience makes it a benchmark in unlimited aerobatics. The model remains a leading choice for elite competition pilots worldwide.
