Operational Context
Boeing BBJ 737-700 — long-range executive jet
The BBJ concept was launched in 1996 as a joint initiative between Boeing and General Electric. Based on the 737-700 airframe, it features additional fuel tanks and structural modifications for extended range. The cabin is fitted with bespoke executive interiors.
Powered by two CFM56-7B turbofan engines producing approximately 27,000 pounds of thrust (120 kN) each, the BBJ cruises at around 460 knots (850 km/h). Maximum takeoff weight is roughly 171,000 pounds (77,560 kg). Range can exceed 6,000 nautical miles (11,110 km) depending on configuration.
The BBJ has been adopted by corporations, heads of state, and private owners. Its large cabin allows flexible layouts including meeting rooms and private suites. The model established Boeing’s presence in the ultra-large business jet segment.
