Operational Context

Bombardier Challenger 605 — large-cabin business jet

The Challenger 605 first flew in 2006 and entered service later that year. It retained the wide cabin cross-section of earlier models while introducing a redesigned flight deck and updated systems. Bombardier positioned the aircraft as a dependable transcontinental platform.

Two General Electric CF34 turbofan engines, each producing approximately 8,729 pounds of thrust (38.8 kN), power the jet. Typical cruise speed is around Mach 0.82. Maximum takeoff weight exceeds 48,000 pounds (21,773 kg), with range approaching 4,000 nautical miles (7,408 km).

The 605 became popular with corporate flight departments and charter operators seeking large-cabin comfort without ultra-long-range requirements. Production concluded in the mid-2010s as newer Challenger variants emerged. Many aircraft remain active worldwide.
