If you hold a November booking for Naples, check it today: Naples Capodichino Airport closes to all air traffic on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and stays shut through November 30 while its runway and taxiways are rebuilt. Some flights move to Salerno, about 37 miles (60 km) southeast, and others are canceled outright.

The website of airport operator GESAC carries a closure notice dated October 12, and Wanted in Rome laid out the details on October 29. A trip that begins in October is caught too, because a return on or after November 1 has no departure from Capodichino either.

Which airlines cancel and which move

The Lufthansa Group has canceled all its November Naples flights, aeroTELEGRAPH reported from a notice on the group’s sales platform. That covers service from Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich, and passengers who agree are rebooked to Rome Fiumicino.

KLM says on its Naples page that it will not fly to or from the city during the closure and recommends Rome instead. A Volotea spokesperson told aeroTELEGRAPH that its Naples flights are suspended for the duration, with no alternative airport planned.

We found no statement from easyJet or Ryanair. German motoring club ADAC says both are largely suspending Naples, and aeroTELEGRAPH found November unbookable on their sites in September, with neither pointing customers to another airport.

Both do fly from Salerno, but aeroTELEGRAPH found that limited to their Milan-area routes. So a passenger booked with either airline on any other route should not assume a Salerno replacement exists.

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi e del Cilento, which GESAC also runs, will offer 15 destinations in November. Local reports from Napolike and Caserta Web say that is about a third of Capodichino’s traffic, with other flights going to Rome.

flydubai’s move is published in detail: AeroRoutes lists a daily 737 MAX 8 between Dubai and Salerno from November 1 to 30. aeroTELEGRAPH reported Eurowings at four weekly flights from Stuttgart and three from Düsseldorf.

Check your terminal as well, because Salerno is using both. Wanted in Rome reports the recently opened general aviation terminal will handle Casablanca, Dubai, Madrid and Sharm el-Sheikh.

US carriers are not part of this, since aeroTELEGRAPH found their Naples flights are seasonal and end before November. American travelers are affected mainly through connections at European hubs.

Getting to Salerno or Rome

GESAC and Busitalia Campania are running a special bus between Piazza Garibaldi, outside Napoli Centrale station, and Salerno airport. It makes eight trips a day each way, timed to flights, and costs €12 per person per trip, paid electronically on board.

Buses from the airport to Salerno railway station have been increased, and links to Potenza, Eboli, Battipaglia and the Amalfi Coast continue. Wanted in Rome also reports a fixed-fare shared taxi being trialed to the main stations in Naples and Salerno.

Through Rome Fiumicino, News.at notes high-speed trains from Roma Termini reach Naples in about 70 minutes, plus the trip from the airport into the city. The Rome to Naples flight itself stops, and Napolitan reports ITA Airways plans a bus in its place.

What you are owed if your flight is gone

Under EU passenger rules, a canceled flight within or departing the EU, or arriving on an EU airline, entitles you to a choice: a refund, or rerouting at the earliest opportunity or a later date. The cash compensation of up to €600 does not apply when you were told more than 14 days ahead, and News.at says that generally rules it out here.

Lufthansa Group passengers who refuse the Rome rebooking can move to another airline, and the group sometimes covers train or bus costs to Naples, per aeroTELEGRAPH. News.at advises keeping tickets and receipts.

Why one runway closes a whole airport

Capodichino has a single runway, so there is no second strip to carry traffic while it is rebuilt. This is no overnight resurfacing: the job removes the existing pavement layers and rebuilds the structure across about 2.7 million square feet (250,000 square meters), and it also replaces the lighting and signaling.

About 500 people will work around the clock, seven days a week, on a contract won by ADR Infrastrutture. This week’s reports put the cost at €30 million, though Travel Extra cited €19.4 million in September.

The date has already moved once. CAPA notes an earlier plan to stop operations from January 19 to March 1, 2026, and Italy’s aviation authority ENAC said in 2025 that pushing the start to November 2026 would limit the days closed.

Naples is not alone in closing outright for runway works: Chios in Greece faces four months without scheduled flights this winter.

When Naples reopens

The closure window ends November 30, but no source we checked gives a reopening hour. The works are planned at 24 days, with six more held for rain, and Napolike quoted GESAC chief executive Roberto Barbieri in September as saying the airport could reopen early if there is no rain.

Do not plan around an early return: Napolike reports flydubai, for one, plans to resume Naples on December 1.
