Embraer’s Order Backlog Hits a Record $34.5 Billion on a Big Defense Win

On July 24, 2026, Brazilian manufacturer Embraer said its total order backlog reached $34.5 billion at the end of the second quarter, a seventh consecutive record high. The company also reported its strongest second-quarter delivery total in 16 years.

The backlog climbed 7% from the first quarter’s $32.1 billion and 16% from a year earlier, according to Embraer’s results. Every business segment grew year over year, but the sharpest jump came from defense.

Where the growth is coming from

Commercial Aviation backlog reached $15.1 billion, up 15% year over year. Embraer credited a new order from lessor Azorra for 15 E195-E2 regional jets, which pushed the E2 program’s cumulative firm orders past 500 aircraft.

That milestone was already visible at Farnborough, where the E2 program passed 500 orders on the back of the same Azorra deal. Embraer’s July 24 report folds that into a broader quarterly picture rather than announcing anything new on the commercial side.

A bigger defense win

The clearest new development sits in Defense & Security, where backlog jumped 42% year over year to $6.1 billion. Embraer attributed the growth to a United Arab Emirates order for the C-390 Millennium military transport: 10 firm aircraft plus 10 options.

Embraer called it the largest single-country international order for the C-390 to date and the aircraft’s first sale into the Middle East. The deal helped lift the segment’s book-to-bill ratio, a measure of new orders against deliveries, to 2.6 over the past year.

Everywhere else was up too

Executive Aviation backlog rose 5% to $7.8 billion after Embraer earned triple certification, from Brazil’s ANAC, the FAA, and EASA, for its new Praetor 600E and 500E business jets during the quarter. Services & Support backlog climbed 12% to a record $5.5 billion, helped by new long-term support agreements with Canada’s Jazz Aviation and Brazil’s air force.

Backlog measures work still to be built and delivered, not revenue already collected, so manufacturers watch it as a signal of future production rather than current cash flow. A book-to-bill ratio above 1 means new orders are arriving faster than aircraft are shipping out, thickening the backlog further.

Embraer paired the record backlog with 65 aircraft delivered in the quarter, up 48% from the first quarter and the company’s best second-quarter total since 2010. Of those, 20 were commercial jets, including six E195-E2s, and 45 were executive jets.

Defense delivered none, reflecting the lag between signing a deal like the UAE’s and an aircraft actually reaching a customer’s ramp.
